I guarantee everyone, there is a 100% chance Joe Alexander will be a bust in the upcoming NBA dra
ft. I couldn’t believe he was leaving, and then I couldn’t believe anyone actually wanted him. Now apparently he is a top ten pick. This is ridiculous. Why you ask? He just sucks.
He’s not good. All he does is shoot midrange jumpers over smaller defenders, defenders that in the NBA won’t be small. They will also be quicker. Alexander could NEVER get to the hoop against anyone resembling a decent D-1 defender last year. He will NNNNEEEEEEVVVVer get to the basket in the NBA.
I pay a lot of attention to Big East basketball. Joe Alexander got destroyed in the first round of the big east tournament by guys like Geoff McDermott, Jamine Peterson, and Alex Kellogg. Of course, these Providence Friars missed a TON of layups and dunks so they lost the game, but Alexander sucked. Look at these pictures. Above you have Joe late in defensive help not even close to guarding Weyinmi Efejuku. Below you have Joe trying to drive by average defender Brian McKenzie and, well, not. Get used to a lot of that picture on the left if your team drafts him. Sure these pictur
es are cherry picked, but Alexander dunking on no one is an even less accurate judge of his ability.
Alexander is a below average NBA defender, a guy who can dunk but can never get to the basket, and a guy who has a great mid-range jumper when he is open, which again, he never will be in the NBA because he is slow.
But he does speak Chinese, so I guess he’s got that goin for him.

Hollinger is completely wrong then. OJ Mayo is so much better than Alexander; I cant even believe I just used them in the same sentence.

They said the same thing about Yao Ming. And guess how he turned out – the best center in the NBA now. Joe Alexander has more upside than anyone else in the draft. This dude has only played team basketball for 5 years. His athleticism is off the charts, better than most black ball players in the draft. He can dunk like Vince Carter – sticking his whole arm in the basket. He can dunk from the free throw line from a running start at half-court. He can jump and grab a quarter off the top of the backboard. Not too many guys can do that in the NBA. Vince Carter, Kobe, and Dwight Howard come to mind. He deserves to be top five pick. If he were 6′11″ with that kind of athleticism, he’d be a top 3 pick for sure.

You know who else comes to mind? Jamario Moon, Gerald Green, and fricken Chris Anderson (Birdman?!?!). Although, these guys can actually get to the hoop sometimes, so it’s probably a bad comparison. If he were 6′11″ he might have a chance to be good. Tell him if he could actually beat a guy like slow Geoff McDermott off the dribble then maybe he’d have a chance. “Upside” is a meaningless word. I think Sasha Kaun has the most upside, deal with that (note: I don’t actually think this, just pointing out how stupid it is to so something like that).
